Vettel Contemplates Future Role in F1

by admin

Sebastian Vettel, who called time on his Formula 1 racing career at the end of the 2022 season, expressed potential interest in exploring a role within F1. The German legend launched his F1 career in 2007, making his debut in America with a single BMW race, followed by a stint with Toro Rosso for the remainder of the season.

Speaking at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend, Vettel mentioned a surge of interest for him to take on a role within F1, potentially focusing on promoting sustainability. However, he is currently relishing a less structured lifestyle and spending quality time with his family.

“I do have some thoughts about my F1 future,” Vettel said when queried about his plans. “I had a constructive meeting with Stefano Domenicali in Monaco earlier this year.

“Beyond the direct emissions from cars, F1 carries a significant responsibility due to its scale. Large numbers of people attend these events, with around half a million spectators at the recent British Grand Prix. It’s about more than just the cars – they are what everyone sees, but it’s essential that we’re moving in the right direction. I’m having ongoing discussions and exploring a few ideas. We’ll see what the future holds.”

In response to whether he’d received intriguing job offers, Vettel stated: “There has been considerable interest from various quarters. However, I set a goal for myself last year to experience freedom.

“I’ve been declining many offers because I want to explore this new phase of life without a strict routine, to seek inspiration from different avenues.

“I am cherishing the time spent with my children and our little adventures in a van. But I also understand that my life won’t revolve solely around them. While I want to support them, I’m aware that sooner or later, I’ll need to tackle a new challenge.”

When asked about when he became passionate about environmental concerns, Vettel, who test drove a Williams FW14B and McLaren MP4/8 on synthetic fuel at Goodwood as part of his Race Without Trace initiative, reflected on his career.

“I probably became aware of it later than I should have,” he confessed. “While it may have existed during my younger years, it’s become undeniable now.

“As for whether it affected my racing performance, it’s hard to tell. If it did, I don’t regret it. There are issues in this world that are far more critical than achieving a certain lap time or race position.

“Even though racing is my life, and very important to me, there are greater concerns for our planet than where I place in a race. In the grand scheme of things, what happens on the race track and in F1 may not be all that significant.”
