After achieving pole position at Silverstone on Saturday, the leader of the world championship, Verstappen, was seen with a bandage wrapped around his right hand.
When asked about the cause of the injury, the Dutch racer revealed that he had somehow injured a finger prior to the beginning of the track event.
“I slightly sprained my finger,” he disclosed post-qualification. “My hand was causing some discomfort. Today it was better, although initially I had difficulty applying full pressure. But it’s completely fine now.”
Verstappen confessed his uncertainty about the exact cause of the injury, as there was no evident reason.
“I’m not sure what happened,” he stated. “It was Thursday morning. Possibly, I might have positioned or exerted pressure on my hand incorrectly. It’s quite peculiar.”
Despite experiencing some pain during the inaugural day on the track, Verstappen asserted that it had not affected his car’s performance and was confident that he would be able to participate in the British GP race without issue.
“Once the adrenaline starts flowing, it helps,” he commented about the race. “While I’m driving, I hardly dwell on it. Although yesterday was slightly more challenging, today was reasonably manageable.”
Post qualification, Verstappen, the pole man of Red Bull Racing, and Lando Norris, McLaren’s racer, engaged in a discussion in Parc Ferme.

Verstappen is slated to kick off the British GP ahead of his good friend and McLaren’s driver, Lando Norris.
Clearly thrilled with Norris’s best qualifying performance of the season, Verstappen spoke about their close bond.
Asked about his happiness at Norris’s presence, Verstappen responded, “That’s because we share a good rapport. I am not well-acquainted with Oscar, who represents the upcoming generation. We didn’t cross paths in karting either.
“But I’ve shared a great relationship with Lando for quite some time. This is largely due to our similar relaxed approach to life.
“He is genuinely a nice guy. And I recognize his talent. So, it’s great to see him qualify in such a manner.”
