by admin

Paul Tracy, aged 54, has been a regular participant in SRX races since the series’ debut season in 2021. Founded by Tony Stewart, a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, SRX organizes six races each summer.

Throughout his involvement, Tracy has never missed a race and achieved one podium finish in 15 starts. However, during the most recent main event, things took a dramatic turn. With only 12 laps to go, Tracy found himself in a battle for fifth place with Josef Newgarden. Unfortunately, this competition resulted in an intense collision, causing a multi-car crash involving Hailie Deegan, Ken Schrader, and the 2022 SRX champion, Marco Andretti.

In response to the incident, SRX made the decision to suspend Paul Tracy on Friday night, less than 24 hours after the race. The series’ Chief Executive Officer, Don Hawk, emphasized the paramount importance of driver safety within SRX and clarified that this choice was not taken lightly. Hawk acknowledged that their responsibility is to foster a competitive yet safe racing environment. Furthermore, Hawk confirmed that he had personally communicated with Paul Tracy and appreciated his cooperation in addressing the matter.

Following the race’s conclusion, Tracy commented on the incident, describing it as “hard racing” and refusing to accept responsibility for the crash. According to Tracy’s account, he and Newgarden had been in close contact for a few laps, and the incident was a result of intense competition with everyone pushing hard in the final laps. Tracy cited the track’s difficulty in maneuvering the corners, attributing the collision to the challenging racing conditions.

Ken Schrader, aged 68, who has an extensive racing background with over 750 Cup races under his belt and was participating in his fourth SRX start that week, was furious about the incident. He stated that he would not return to SRX races if Tracy’s suspension was lifted. Schrader’s strong reaction showcased the impact of the collision on fellow drivers and further added to the seriousness of the situation.
