Ricciardo Believes De Vries Can Bounce Back After AlphaTauri F1 Dismissal

by admin

F1 newcomer, de Vries, was recently let go by the Faenza team and replaced by ex-McLaren racer, Ricciardo, starting from the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend.

Questioned by F1 Flow.com about his empathy for de Vries, Ricciardo drew from his personal experience of a hiatus from the track in the first half of this season, emphasizing the potential for recovery.

“Without a doubt, your heart goes out to the other drivers,” Ricciardo confessed, himself a casualty of McLaren’s decision to favor Oscar Piastri.

“We pour our entire lives into this. It’s heartbreaking and I empathize with Nyck.

“Though he may lack F1 experience, his overall racing background is solid. He’s in his late 20s now.

“I believe he has the maturity to grasp the nature of the sport. If he’s still determined to succeed, I’m confident he can bounce back and make a difference.

“Just look at my journey. A year ago, I questioned if I’d ever be behind an F1 wheel again. Fast forward a year, and here I am. Miracles do occur. If he retains his aspiration, he should keep his spirits up.

“As in any aspect of life, setbacks are inevitable, but it’s all about the comeback. I wish him all the best. Seeing him back on the grid would certainly bring a smile to my face.”

Alex Albon, who also experienced dismissal by Red Bull at the close of the 2020 season and then competed in DTM the following year while serving as the team’s third driver, identified with Ricciardo’s potential for a revitalizing return after a hiatus.

The Williams driver reflected, “I had a year off, he’s had slightly less, but I genuinely believe that year did wonders for me.

“When you’re caught in the tumultuous whirlwind of racing, especially when things aren’t going smoothly, and you’re racing back to back without pause, there’s no room for introspection and real understanding. It feels like you’re caught in a perpetual spin cycle.

“The intermission offers the opportunity for reflection and improvement. It also enables a comprehensive mental reset, which is crucial.

“The break is indispensable as it helps to restore lost confidence and confront the inner demons that may have surfaced.

“I treasured my stint in DTM, as it offered a different driving experience. It bolstered my confidence in a unique way, as I was still behind the wheel of a racing car. It was a definite confidence booster.”

Albon further shared that his return to F1 before the 2022 season was marked by increased confidence, and he thinks Ricciardo can also derive similar advantages after two challenging seasons at McLaren.

“After observing Daniel and witnessing his renewed enthusiasm, I believe he’s experiencing a similar resurgence,” he concluded.
