The seven-time Formula 1 champion, Lewis Hamilton, is currently in the process of clarifying the final details of a new contract with Mercedes, which will see him committed to the sport for the upcoming years.
The delay in finalizing the contract has stirred up speculations regarding potential challenging aspects in the deal.
Recently, rumors have arisen suggesting Hamilton’s interest in securing an ambassadorial role with Mercedes post his retirement from the sport.
However, during the Belgian Grand Prix, Mercedes’ Wolff clarified that the focus of the current contract is solely on Hamilton’s responsibilities as a driver.
“The discussions are not revolving around a post-retirement ambassadorial role, nor is it a part of the contract negotiations,” Wolff elaborated.
He stressed that Hamilton has many more years of driving for the team ahead of him, thus the current contract negotiations are purely about ironing out certain details.
Wolff acknowledged the perceived uncertainties around the contract but assured that the delay is only due to minor issues that need sorting out.

In recent discussions, both Wolff and Hamilton have emphasized that no significant obstacles stand in the way of finalizing the contract. The remaining task lies in addressing the legal matters.
Speaking at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Hamilton mentioned that the progress towards contract finalization is entirely in the hands of the legal teams.
“I’ve been distanced from the process from the start,” he stated. “I have many other focus areas, hence the team is dealing with it behind the scenes.
“No negotiation is left to be done. Only minute details are left to be addressed.”
Echoing Hamilton’s statement, Wolff noted that due to the involvement of legal teams at this point, it’s challenging to provide a definite completion date.
“I wouldn’t like to specify a date as lawyers are dealing with lawyers now,” Wolff mentioned. “While there are no major issues left, time must be allotted for the process, hence I can’t commit to a definite date.”
