Mick Schumacher, the German racer who transitioned to Mercedes this year after two successful seasons with Haas, is set to participate in both Saturday and Sunday’s races during the three-day Goodwood event, scheduled for July 14-16.
The car in focus, the W02, marks the second vehicle designed and manufactured by the Mercedes F1 team, a development that followed their acquisition of Brawn GP at the close of the 2009 season.
Notably, the car was driven by Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg and was instrumental in securing regular points that pushed the team to the fourth position in the constructors’ championship. Despite its achievements, the W02 is unique for being the only Mercedes car that did not achieve a podium finish, its top result being fourth place at the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix.
Reflecting on the upcoming Goodwood event, Schumacher shared his enthusiasm: “It’s going to be an incredible experience to drive my father’s 2011 car, the W02, even if it’s just for a short stint. I’m thrilled to experience this era of vehicles firsthand! The fact that my father raced in this very car adds an extra layer of significance, and I expect to be filled with emotions. I’ve had the fortune of driving some of his Benetton cars and Ferraris, but this marks my inaugural drive in a Mercedes he drove. I’m confident I’ll finish with a broad grin.”

Mercedes plans to publicly showcase these iconic vehicles in the official F1 Pit Lane area, which will be open from Friday through Sunday.
