Michigan’s NASCAR Cup Race Delayed to Monday

by admin

Sunday’s commencement of the NASCAR cup race was put off by over an hour and a half due to rain, and finally began only to be paused on the 75th lap out of 200 as rainfall resumed in the vicinity of the 2-mile oval track.

After over 50 minutes of waiting, NASCAR officials decided to reschedule the remaining part of the race for 12 p.m. ET on Monday. The race will be televised live on the USA Network.

When the decision was made to postpone, Tyler Reddick was leading the pack, with Alex Bowman, Kyle Larson, Martin Truex Jr., and Erik Jones following close behind.

The top 10 racers also included Austin Cindric, Brad Keselowski, Austin Dillon, Bubba Wallace, and Denny Hamlin.

Stage 1

Truex managed to fend off a late surge from Wallace in a restart with six laps to go, securing a win in Stage 1. Ty Gibbs secured the third position, followed by Keselowski and Larson in the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

In a fight for position with Ryan Blaney, Kyle Busch spun out and crashed into the Turn 2 wall, taking him out of the race after just 15 laps.

Chase Elliott’s race also ended early when a rear tire blowout caused him to crash in Turn 2 right before the end of the first stage.

Stage 2

After the pause between Stages 1 and 2, Bowman emerged first from the pit stop and maintained his lead as the race resumed on lap 51.

Christopher Bell briefly overtook Bowman for the lead on lap 65, but quickly spun out and hit the wall, triggering a caution.

Bell’s No. 20 Toyota sustained some damage but was able to stay in the race.

Following the caution caused by Bell’s collision, Reddick surpassed Bowman for the lead shortly after the restart.

The race was placed under caution again on lap 75 as the rain returned to the area.

After a short hiatus, NASCAR decided to push the rest of the race to 12 p.m. ET on Monday.
