Schumacher’s winning Ferrari F2001b from the 2002 Australian Grand Prix is set to be auctioned in a unique offering by Sotheby’s Sealed.
Chassis 215 has the distinction of never having finished off the podium during its racing history, creating a unique chance to own an exceptional piece of modern motorsport engineering.
Previously, Schumacher’s Ferrari F2003-GA was sold at a Sotheby’s auction for $14.9 million, setting a new record, twice the amount of a previous record of $7.5 million for his F2001 in 2017.

The F2001B was used by Schumacher for the opening two races of the 2002 season, and he remarked, “We would like to employ the new vehicle as early as possible, but only if it’s superior to this one and reliable.”
During the memorable 2002 Australian GP, which featured a dramatic first-corner accident involving his brother Ralf, Schumacher drove this car to victory. Despite initial setbacks, he managed to win the race, marking the beginning of his journey towards his fifth Formula 1 World Championship.
After the race, Schumacher admitted his surprise at the win, anticipating a tighter competition in subsequent races.
Jean Todt, Ferrari’s team principal, reflects on the glory days of F1 domination and his special relationship with Schumacher in a video.
Schumacher also piloted this vehicle to a third-place finish in Malaysia after a collision with Montoya, making an impressive comeback from 21st place. “That was a thrilling race,” Schumacher said of the incident and his recovery drive.
The F2001b is outfitted with a three-liter, Gilles Simon-designed Tipo 050 V10 engine, producing nearly 900 horsepower at 18,500rpm, and a seven-speed electro-hydraulic sequential gearbox, with a total weight of just 600kg.
