Austrian GP Sprint 2023: A Detailed Recap

The Red Bull team saw fierce competition right from the beginning on a wet track, with Perez momentarily taking the lead at the first turn and pushing Verstappen off the track. Afterward, Hulkenberg snuck into the second position.

After 12 laps, Perez managed to overtake Hulkenberg, but he was already trailing 10 seconds behind Verstappen. Ferrari’s Sainz passed Hulkenberg for the third position a lap later.

With DRS enabled on the 17th lap, the Aston Martins driven by Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso also overtook Hulkenberg. Hulkenberg then decided to switch to slicks, as did George Russell and Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes, who had started at the tail end of the race.

Verstappen won the race with a 21-second lead over Perez, followed by Sainz, Stroll, Alonso, Hulkenberg, Esteban Ocon, and Russell, with Lando Norris and Hamilton rounding up the top ten.
