Initially, Nico Hulkenberg had a fast time for Haas at 1 minute 18.373 seconds until a red flag was shown, because Sergio Perez crashed his Red Bull at Turn 3.
When the race continued, Max Verstappen raced to the fastest time with 1 minute 17.384 seconds, beating George Russell and Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes and Esteban Ocon from Alpine, as well as Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin by three tenths of a second.
Oscar Piastri (McLaren), Zhou Guanyu (Alfa Romeo), Logan Sargeant (Williams), Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo) and Perez all failed at the start of the race.

At first, Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari had the fastest lap time at 1min 17.560 secs until Max Verstappen (Red Bull) beat this with his own time of 1min 17.219secs. Still, Fernando Alonso (Alpine) came very close to Verstappen only 0.064 seconds behind him. Later on, Verstappen was able to do even better and set a lap time of 1min 17.056secs.
After these times were set, Esteban Ocon, Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri), Lando Norris (McLaren), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and Nyck de Vries (AlphaTauri) weren’t able to get fast enough lap times and were knocked out from this session of racing.

Verstappen was the first one to start and he set the time with 1m17.578s on his run. Alonso beat that with 1m17.303s, but then Hamilton got the fastest at 1m17.271s and pushed Verstappen to sixth place. However, Verstappen tried again and got back to first with 1m17.262s – only 0.009s behind Hamilton’s score!
Verstappen had the best time with 1m16.732s, being 0.236 faster than Russell. Hamilton just managed to beat Alonso, and they become third and fourth respectively. Sainz is fifth, followed by Stroll from Aston Martin, Leclerc, Albon from Williams, then Gasly from Alpine and finally Hulkenberg from Haas makes the top 10.
