Canadian Nicholas Latifi, who has a track record of 61 F1 races with Williams, including an impressive career peak of seventh place at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix, has been absent from the limelight since losing his spot at the end of last year.
After considering his prospects and deciding against transitioning to other racing leagues in the near future, Latifi has now divulged his plan to diverge significantly from his previous path.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Latifi confessed that he spent this year contemplating his career trajectory and resolved to step back entirely from racing to pursue academic study.
“I decided early in the year that I won’t be racing in 2023,” he penned. “It indeed felt quite peculiar not to have the same routine I’ve adhered to for over half my life.
“Knowing I won’t be racing this year, I inevitably started thinking about my next steps, whether it involved racing or an entirely different path.
“I chose to take a break for now and venture into a new direction, focusing on another career path.
“I always had a strong interest in business growing up, and I often mentioned that I would have pursued it at university had I not embarked on a racing career.
“With this consideration and the possibility of a break from racing, I decided to go after an MBA degree and concentrate on something that will redefine the next stage of my life. The idea of earning an MBA was something I considered for my life after racing, even if it meant doing it in my late 30s or early 40s.”

Deciding to aim for an MBA, Latifi mentioned that he spent a considerable amount of time determining the ideal place to study and preparing his applications. His endeavor to study in London has now been accepted.
“This wasn’t a straightforward process and took several months! Anyone who has gone through the process of applying to a business school can attest to its difficulty,” he acknowledged.
“After embarking on this five-month journey, I’m glad to announce that my application was accepted to the MBA program at London Business School (LBS), which I’ll be starting in August this year.”
Although he had numerous opportunities to return to the race track, Latifi felt that losing his position in F1 provided the perfect opportunity to explore his other career passion.
He continued: “This decision may come as a surprise to many. Switching to a different racing category might have seemed like the logical choice.
“However, I realized that there would inevitably be a life beyond racing, and I felt that now might be the right time to prepare myself for that phase.”
Latifi has not entirely written off the possibility of returning to the world of racing, despite his commitment to the MBA program for the next few years.
“This doesn’t necessarily mean I’m saying goodbye to racing forever,” he pointed out. “Racing has been an integral part of my life since I was 13 and remains something I am deeply passionate about.
“I haven’t missed a single F1 race this season! Nevertheless, I felt that this year was the right time to explore and pursue different aspects of my life.
“I’m excited about embarking on this new journey and want to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me throughout my career. I hope to continue receiving your support as I venture into a different path.”
