Brad Pitt and director Joseph Kosinski attended the F1 drivers’ briefing, essentially to introduce themselves and express gratitude to the drivers for their understanding of any disruptions tied to the production of the forthcoming Apple-sponsored F1 movie.
Shooting officially commenced this weekend after months of preparation, with the film’s fictitious 11th team making a noticeable appearance in both the paddock and pitlane.
The production’s transformed F2 cars are set to grace the grid before the race and will partake in a segment of the formation lap, operated by ex-racers turned stuntmen Craig Dolby and Luciano Bacheta.
George Russell, the GPDA director, described Pitt’s presence as somewhat uncanny, stating, “When you see a global superstar for the first time, it’s quite surreal.”
“But once you’ve spent time with these people, whether it was Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, or Roger Federer, you realize they’re just ordinary human beings,” he added, noting Pitt’s casual demeanour and joviality. “I am eager to see the outcome of the movie.”
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was supportive of the film production. He shared his enthusiasm, “It’s unexpected but fun to see Brad at the drivers’ briefing. They gave us a preview of what the movie entails and it’s very exciting. I can’t wait to see it. He’s a great guy.”
Pierre Gasly, who captured a selfie with Pitt, Hamilton, and Leclerc, confessed he hasn’t noticed any disturbance due to the filming so far. “It’s not every day that you get to meet Brad Pitt,” the Alpine driver said. “Despite being in the same room with Pitt during the drivers’ briefing, everything else felt normal. However, I anticipate a slightly different grid scene this Sunday.”
World Champion Max Verstappen, on the other hand, demonstrated less excitement about the project. “I presume they will use footage from all of us, like onboard camera views,” said the Dutchman. “Honestly, I can’t be bothered with it. It’s a show for the film, and not everything will be authentic. But it’s fine. I’m not too invested in it.”
